Skull and Bones: How to Get Pieces of Eight and Where to Spend Them

While the main currency in Skull and Bones is Silver, there are a number of other currencies you will need to pick up exclusive blueprints and weapons. One of them is Pieces of Eight, which can be obtained by completing missions for The Helm. The Helm quests start after completing a few missions for Captain John Scurlock in Sainte-Anne and reaching a high enough Infamy Rank. Once the conditions are met, you will receive a letter, inviting you to speak to the manager at Le Pont Muet in Sainte-Anne, starting a main story quest.

How To Manufacture Smuggling Cargo

Pieces of Eight are awarded for completing missions for The Helm, who runs a black market. You will have to do a couple of tutorial quests before you can get set loose, but the short version is that you need to collect materials like Cane Sugar or Poppy from either Helm suppliers or from plundering other pirates. With those materials, you can create either White Skull Rum or Blue Lotus Opium.

There are two smuggling operations in Skull and Bones. One in Sainte-Anne and one in Telok Penjarah. The first can manufacture White Skull Rum and the second Blue Lotus Opium, with higher tier goods unlocked later.

If you don't have any materials, head to the Supply Network menu. There are two tabs here, the first is Liaisons, which tells you where you can buy either Sugar Cane or Poppy and for how much. You must accept these offers in order to track them and purchase the materials. The second tab is Attacks, which shows you where small fleets of pirates are located and how much material you can loot from them. Again, make sure to accept the attack in order to track it like a mission.

How To Complete Helm Missions And Earn Pieces Of Eight

Once you have a supply of cargo to smuggle, it's time to accept missions from the Order Registry. The Registry will typically have between three to five missions available, some of which might be at the same location. The quantity needed will be listed, as well as the amount of Pieces of Eight you will earn for completing the run. The smuggler you are meeting will be located at an outpost or sitting on a ship somewhere in Skull and Bones, but the difficult part of smuggling is that once you accept the missions, you cannot fast-travel.

While you are smuggling some pirates will try to intercept you, so you will need to fend them off as you sail to your destination. Once you deliver the goods, you will be given your reward and fast travel will be enabled.

Once you have reached Kingpin and completed an introductory quest, you will gain access to the smuggling empire system. This allows you to take over manufacturing plants via the Hostile Takeover event. Taking over these plants produces Pieces of Eight on an hourly basis, greatly increasing the amount you can earn. You can purchase empire upgrades using Pieces of Eight, which can increase the amount you earn and improve other aspects of your smuggling operation.

Where To Spend Pieces Of Eight

Pieces of Eight can only be spent on the Black Market and on upgrades for your smuggling operation. The Helm Empire Overview is available in the smuggling area, where you can spend Pieces of Eight on upgrades, like faster manufacturing and higher yields.

The majority of upgrades will require you to be Kingpin 1, the highest main Infamy Rank, making it mostly an endgame activity.

The Black Market is available in two locations. You can access them by speaking to Yanita in Sainte-Anne or Houma Nara in Telok Penjarah. Most of the Skull and Bones items and blueprints are fairly costly, so you will need a hefty amount of Pieces of Eight.
